2.  FLORIDA MARCH BREAK EXCURSION TO VERO BEACH–MARCH 12-21, 2020

We are pleased to confirm our destination for Spring Training will be Vero Beach, Florida at the Jackie Robinson Complex.  The Highway Coach will depart The Dugout on Thursday, March 12 and return to The Dugout on Saturday, March 21.  Parents and players also have the option to fly and meet the coaching staff in Vero Beach.  Each player will have his own locker in a professional Dodger Town clubhouse for this eight-day, seven-night excursion; 15U-18U players will be housed in dorms in the complex and be on a 3 Meals a Day food plan at the complex.  14U players have the option of staying in the dorm or staying with their parents in nearby hotels.  This is an optional trip, but last year, 58 of our players participated when we went to the West Palm Classic.  We made three teams that were competitive at the Junior and Senior levels. Included in this trip will be a Spring Training Game and buffet as we have done in the last few years in Jupiter.  The site of this Spring Training game is to be determined as is the final price of this excursion.  Final details will be available in next week’s bulletin. Please contact Jason Booth or Jim Stewart if you have any questions.

3.  2020 TOURNAMENTS WILL INCLUDE A PREMIER WORLD SERIES EVENT IN JOPLIN, MISSOURI

Our final 2020 Tournament schedule will be forthcoming by November 30 as per our communications tradition at Team Ontario.  However, we do have a significant tournament confirmed for our 15U-18U teams.  Director of Baseball Jason Booth has negotiated with Premier to enter four of our teams in their World Series Event in Joplin, Missouri from July 14-19, 2020.  This is a very big scouting event at which 100 Division 1 and Division 2 schools will attend.  Please mark this on the calendar.  17U and 18U teams will travel to this event by highway coach.  15U and 16U teams will have the option of renting another bus for travel or parents will have the option to drive to Missouri.  Joplin is a 16-hour drive. We are also determining our May excursion which will be to either Columbus, Ohio for the Memorial Day Weekend or to Kent State in Ohio for the final weekend in May for the 14U-16U teams.  These dates and our other July US tournaments will be confirmed on our 2020 schedule at the end of the month.

4.  SAVE THESE DATES, SVP

A)    Saturday, March 7, 2020–our 20th Annual Gala will be held at Montecassino Event Centre in Vaughan.  Thanks to Mauro Arturi for securing this venue.  We are asking for parents to run this event so please forward your name to Jim Stewart or Loretta Murray if you are interested in chairing this event or serving on specific committees to make this event a terrific and historical one. We will be celebrating 20 years of great memories and inducting former players and coaches into the Astros Hall of Fame in addition to presenting awards to Pitchers and Players of the Year as well as honouring graduating players with Murray Marshall Scholarships.

B)  Monday, May 18, 2020–our 1st Annual Golf Tournament and Principal Fundraiser at Tangle Creek GC.  Greens fees are $600 per foursome that includes a round of golf, steak dinner, golf shirt, cart, $10K prize table, starter kit, chances to win $500 for longest drive and closest to the hole, and a chance to win a brand new Chrysler for a hole-in-one, courtesy of Frank Caietta and Vaughan Chrysler.  Thanks to Frank for his generous support of this big event. Deadline for submission of donated prizes, names of participating foursomes, sponsorships of individual holes at $200 per hole, and other helpful items that you would like to contribute to this event will be December 15.  We need to sell out this event which means we need 144 golfers gracing the greens of Tangle Creek.  If you don’t want to golf but you’d like to come for a steak dinner and the fun of the reception, we have a dinner-only package for only $50.  Please contact Loretta or Jim, if you have any questions. Thanks to Jim Walker for spearheading the planning committee for this vital fundraiser and fun social event.

C)  Thursday, December 5-Sunday, December 8, 2019–Our Annual Matt Kennedy Baseball Clinic will take place between December 5-8.  Coach Kennedy is from Saint Leo University in Florida and has long been affiliated with the Team Ontario Astros.  He brings his fielding, pitching, and hitting expertise to Vaughan for these four days and this is an excellent opportunity to get your son in front of an American coach who scouts our organization annually. Please contact Kyle McKay or Jason Booth to sign up for these excellent clinics.  This clinic slots are filling up fast.

D)  Monday, January 6, 2020–Deadline for all players to have purchased their J-Bands that they will use during our Winter Workouts.  Please contact Daryl Ringwald to purchase these J-Bands, if you have not done so already.

5.  REPORT CARDS REQUIRED FOR FALL ACADEMIC CONFERENCES

Parents and players are reminded to provide Jim Stewart (in the Conference Room) or Alex Stewart (in the Fitness Room) with a paper copy of a Semester One or Term One report card this week so we can conduct academic conferences with our student-athletes.  Conferences have begun and are proceeding well. We have been impressed with our student-athletes’ academic achievements thus far.  These goal-setting sessions are obligatory for our players.  We are also setting baseball goals in these conferences with the Education Compliance Officer and a Team Ontario coach in attendance.  Thanks for your help in getting these documents to The Dugout to ensure the success of this aspect of the Astros program.  Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

6.  VOLUNTEER PITCHERS NEEDED FOR ASTROS BASEBALL CLINICS FOR AKBA IN AURORA:  DECEMBER 6; 13

Pitchers in need of community service hours are asked to attend two clinics in Aurora on December 6 and 13.  Players will be assisting Select players at the Peewee level.  Our players are expected to attend in full Astros uniform (no black hoodies) and five hours of community service hours will be given for active participation in these two clinics, including modelling the dynamic warmup and breaking down pitching steps in bullpen sessions.  Please contact Jim Stewart if you are interested in this community service that makes our Astros program look very good.  Thanks in advance for your help with this community relations initiative, especially to the Coaches who have already volunteered!  Cheers!

Hope this information fills your family calendars; thanks for your support of our baseball organization. Your participation in these important events is appreciated.
